Temu gives sellers two main ways to sell, and they split responsibility in opposite ways. In the fully managed model, Temu takes over pricing and logistics. In the semi-managed model, you take both back. Choosing between them, product by product, is one of the biggest margin decisions a Temu seller makes.

Fully managed: Temu runs the operation

You list products at a supply price and deliver goods to Temu's warehouse in China. Temu sets the retail price, ships orders internationally, and handles customer service and returns.

Advantages

  • The simplest way onto Temu, with no overseas warehouse or freight to manage.
  • Good for testing whether a product sells before investing in local stock.

Trade-offs

  • Temu controls the retail price, and supply prices are under constant pressure.
  • Your stock is committed to Temu and can't serve other channels.
  • Quality problems found at Temu's receiving come back to you.

Semi-managed: you hold the stock, you set the price

Introduced in 2024, the semi-managed model lets sellers keep inventory in the destination country, for example in a US or EU warehouse, and fulfill orders themselves. Temu runs the storefront and traffic. You set the price and are responsible for shipping orders within Temu's deadlines.

Advantages

  • You control the retail price and the margin.
  • Local stock means faster delivery for customers.
  • The same stock can serve Amazon, TikTok Shop, or your own store.

Trade-offs

  • You need an overseas warehouse or 3PL, and freight and customs to get stock there.
  • You carry inventory risk and must plan replenishment.
  • You must meet dispatch deadlines for every order.

Which model fits which product

  • Fully managed: new products you're testing, very low-priced items, and sellers without overseas operations yet.
  • Semi-managed: proven products with steady sales, items where a better retail price is possible, and sellers already selling on other channels.
Use fully managed to find winners. Use semi-managed to make money from them.

What you need before moving to semi-managed

  • A warehouse or 3PL in the destination country that can ship orders within Temu's deadlines.
  • A freight plan from China, usually sea for base stock and air for top-ups.
  • A customs arrangement: an importer of record, or DDP delivery handled by your forwarder.
  • Compliance documents for your category, such as test reports or certificates.
  • Inspection before departure, so rejected batches don't cost you freight twice.

Running both models

Most growing Temu sellers don't choose one model. They test new products fully managed and move proven sellers to semi-managed. That works best when the supply chain behind both runs through one partner in China who can supply Temu's warehouse and ship bulk stock overseas.

Our Temu seller logistics covers inspection, handling in a Temu-certified warehouse, and duty-paid freight to US and EU warehouses for both models.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Temu's semi-managed model?▼

In the semi-managed model, introduced in 2024, sellers keep inventory in a warehouse in the destination country, set their own retail price, and fulfill orders themselves within Temu's deadlines, while Temu runs the storefront and traffic.

Is Temu semi-managed more profitable than fully managed?▼

It can be, because you control the retail price. But you also pay for freight, duties, warehousing, and fulfillment, and you carry inventory risk. It usually works best for proven products with steady sales.

Can I run fully managed and semi-managed at the same time?▼

Yes. Many sellers test new products in the fully managed model and move proven products to semi-managed, using one supply chain in China for both.
